Myrna Martin
Bio, Presentation Descriptions, and Speaking Schedule

Myrna Martin is a writer, science consultant, speaker and lifelong educator. She received her Master of Science degree from Western Oregon University and her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge. Myrna taught for over 35 years in the public and private sector before retiring to start Ring of Fire 1997. Myrna has written over 25 hands-on Earth science textbooks and they are all published by Ring of Fire. She was named the 2007 Professional of the Year for Science Textbook Publishing by Cambridge Who’s Who.

Ring of Fire is a family business started and still owned by Myrna, her husband Tom and their son Brett. In the beginning the company sold Igneous Rock kits at homeschooling conventions. The kit contained a set of volcanic rocks and a textbook. Today Ring of Fire publishes 25 textbooks and 5 courses of study for PreK through high school students. The materials are sold worldwide and have been featured in an Australian display on student science materials.

Homeschooling Dyslexic Readers


Does your child have trouble reading simple books? Does your child read long difficult words but have trouble reading simple words like: and, the, if and but. Your child may be a picture thinker. Join Myrna, a homeschooling grandmother of a dyslexic student, as she shares some of the things that she has found works and does not work for these bright students. At the end of the presentation you will be invited to share your ideas and ask questions in the second part of the workshop.

Water Water Everywhere — Hands-on science fun activities


Come do some fun science activities with water. Myrna, the author of many books on Earth science welcomes everyone to this workshop. The workshop is filled with hands-on activities that can be used by students of all ages. Some of the activities included in the workshop are exploding colors, penny drop, and floating clippies.

Rock Hound Workshop


Does your child like to collect rocks? Do you have piles or rocks around the house and wish you knew what they were? This workshop will help solve that problem. Myrna, author of several books on rock and mineral identification, brings samples of rocks to this workshop on rock and mineral identification that you will use to learn about the major classifications of rocks in the rock cycle.

Join Myrna Martin, author of numerous books on Earth Science, in a fun workshop with things that fly. Myrna has lots of fun hands-on activities at this workshop for all ages. Test your skill at making a paper airplane, loop airplane, miniature helicopter and other things that fly. See how far they can fly or stay in the air before they drop.

Shake, Rattle and Roll


The Earth suddenly begins to shake beneath our feet and suddenly you realize an earthquake has occurred. Myrna, author of numerous books on Earth Science, has several hands-on activities in this workshop that shows how plates are separating, crashing together and slipping past each other. You will learn about spreading ridges, subduction zones and transform faults in this Earth shaking workshop.
