The History of Home Schoolers’ Struggle to Be Free: An Example of God’s Faithfulness
Chris describes many true stories of how sacrifices of early pioneers and supporting efforts of state leaders and HSLDA helped earn the freedom home schooling families enjoy today. Reminding parents that God honors those who honor Him, Chris encourages families to faithfully and diligently teach their children in the ways of the Lord. (Return to Presentation List)
The Battle for Our Children’s Minds
The Bible commands parents to raise their children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Chris Klicka encourages fathers and mothers to develop a lasting commitment to home schooling as the best means to train children in God’s ways, and then explains how the agendas and philosophies of the “movers and shakers”—past and present—in public education are diametrically opposed to this. He challenges parents to train their children to be leaders of tomorrow by not only teaching them to believe, but also to think like Christians. (Session based on Chapters 3 and 4 of The Right Choice.) (Return to Presentation List)
The Battle for the Right to Home School: in the Courts, Legislatures, Congress, and Around the World
Emphasizing God’s protection and recounting many true David-and-Goliath stories from his 17-plus years defending home schoolers, Chris Klicka describes the price many parents paid for the freedom we now enjoy. He provides an up-to-the minute review of the conflicts, cases, and legislative battles home schoolers are facing in the United States and around the world. And he shares practical tips on what you can do to help preserve our freedoms and help others.
Chris shares his vision for home schooling—God is truly blessing the home school movement, but parents must be eternally vigilant in order to protect our freedom. If we take our freedom for granted, it will slip away. (Return to Presentation List)
Understanding Suffering in the Midst of Home Schooling
All people, including home schoolers, experience suffering. Since we do not understand why, we often do not handle the suffering correctly. Chris applies scriptural promises and truths about suffering as he shares his battle with multiple sclerosis; his wife’s struggle with ulcerative colitis; the death of his legal assistant Kimberly Wray; and the near death of his twins, Amy and Charity. Pointing to suffering as indeed a blessing from God, Chris shows that the Lord will carry us through—God never fails. This home schooling father emphasizes how families can continue their educational program through the tough times. Includes handouts. (Much of this session is based on Chapter 11 of The Heart of Home Schooling.) (Return to Presentation List)
The Case for Home Schooling
A thorough look at the benefits of home schooling. Are home schooled children being socialized? Are they really receiving a good education? How does home schooling benefit family life? Is home schooling economically feasible? Do home schools teach what really matters—loving and obeying God? Chris Klicka uses anecdotes, studies, and hard facts to answer these and many more questions, providing home schoolers with ammunition to defend their home schools before critics and encouraging those considering home schooling. Chris also explains the importance of dying to ourselves and being committed to the training of our children. (Much of this session is based on Chapter 4 and 5 of The Right Choice.) (Return to Presentation List)
How to Instill a Vision in Your Children Concerning Their Home School Heritage
Chris Klicka encourages parents to instill in their children a vision for home schooling. Recounting the history of home schooling since the founding of America, he provides a special anecdotal tour of the “home school hall of fame”—famous men and women who were home schooled. Chris shares practical tips on learning about home school heroes and writing your own home school history! Includes handouts. (Partially based on Chapters 6 and 7 of The Right Choice.) (Return to Presentation List)
Home Schooling and Evangelism
The topic of home schooling is a curiosity to most people. Nearly everyone has an opinion or questions and virtually every conversation turns to the question, “Why are you home schooling?”—which gives the home school student or parent the perfect opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Chris relates dozens of anecdotal stories of the opportunities his family has found to share the gospel because of their home schooling. He gives a step-by-step approach to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission. Chris shares how to start a conversation with a stranger, what verses to share, and even how to use the whole family to evangelize.
God is blessing the home school movement—not because we are home schooling for home schooling’s sake—but for the glory and honor of Jesus Christ. Using our home schooling to teach others about the salvation message is the best way to keep Jesus Christ the center of our home schooling efforts. Chris also shares how God used a near-fatal car accident and the deaths of close friends to spur him on to evangelize in any place and to any person. (Much of this session is based on Chapter 12 of The Heart of Home Schooling.) (Return to Presentation List)
How to Avoid Being a Victim of the Child Welfare System
Over his 12 years of experience at HSLDA, Chris Klicka has handled over 700 legal conflicts with social workers in order to protect home schoolers. Recounting true stories of social workers who harassed home schoolers with false allegations, Chris explains your rights, describes how to handle child welfare investigations, and summarizes the facts which show the child welfare system to be out of control. His presentation includes a humorous but effective skit, illustrating important do’s and don’ts for families who encounter a typical social worker investigation. This is a practical topic since the child welfare department can investigate anybody at anytime simply based on an anonymous tip. Includes handouts. (Some of this session is based on Chapter 13 of The Right Choice.) (Return to Presentation List)
A Challenge to Home School Fathers
As a home school father of seven, Chris relates the importance of the role of fathers in leading their family spiritually, supporting their wives in home schooling, and participating directly in the training of their children. He explains the importance of the quality—and quantity—of time Dad needs to spend with his children. He discusses the father’s involvement in child discipline and as spiritual head of his family. In this practical session, Chris shares dozens of tips for fathers to better train their children.
An exposition of Ephesians 6:4 will serve as a foundation for this session. “Fathers provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Fathers will be held ultimately accountable for the training of their children. Home schooling families need strong home schooling fathers! Fathers must be committed to home schooling, not just involved. This session will serve as an encouragement to fathers to fulfil their God-given role in their family. This is a “must” for every home schooling father. Includes handouts. (Much of this session is based on Chapters 4 and 5 of The Heart of Home Schooling.) (Return to Presentation List)

Can a Home Schooler Be Admitted to and Succeed in College?
Many home schoolers are concerned about whether they can get into and succeed in college. Will admissions policies discriminate against them? How can a college be persuaded to accept a home schooler’s high school transcript? Chris Klicka answers these and many more questions, based on his work with the National Association of College Admissions Counselors, ACT, and many other national higher education associations. Chris summarizes how home schoolers are doing on college entrance exams and shares research demonstrating home schoolers’ success in college. He also discusses HSLDA’s work on Capitol Hill to end discrimination against home schoolers in financial aid and other areas. A “must” session for all college-bound home schoolers and their parents. The Home School Teenager: Standing Against the Tide
Chris challenges teenagers to stay committed to home schooling, reminding them that the true purpose of their education is to be trained in the ways of righteousness. He urges teens to seek wisdom and to live holy lives, guarding against the temptations of youth.
Experienced in fighting against the tide in the courts and the legislatures, Chris encourages young people to stand against the secular tides of our culture. He exhorts them to be students of the Law: God’s Word. He points them toward the necessity of mastering a biblical worldview, which will enable them to think like a Christian and apply that wisdom to all they do. Chris also shares hardships he has faced, urging teens to be prepared and willing to surrender all to Jesus Christ.
Chris emphasizes the advantages of home schooling from a spiritual, practical, and academic perspective, with special mention of the importance of honoring parents. Includes handouts. (Much of this session is based on Chapter 10 of The Heart of Home Schooling.)

He emphasizes the most important priority is the nurturing of our own souls. Includes handouts. (Based on Chapter 3 of The Heart of Home Schooling.) (Return to Presentation List)
