JIM WEISS has been a storyteller for over 25 years. Under the Greathall Productions lable, he has produced 40 STORYTELLING RECORDINGS with enticing titles such as King Arthur, Greek Myths, Shakespeare for Children, Abraham Lincoln and the Heart of America, Thomas Jefferson's America, etc. Jim's line of in-house recordings also include an ever-growing collection of G.A. Henty titles such as: In the Reign of Terror; The Cat of Bubastes; Wulf the Saxon, The Young Carthaginian, and Beric the Briton. In addition to the Greathall line, Jim has recorded The Story of the World, Vol. I, III and IV for Peacehill; Rascal for Listening Library, and a plethora of titles for Books on Tape and other publishers.

Jim is the recipient of over 80+ national awards from The American Library Association, Parents Choice Foundation, Film Advisory Board, Practical Homeschooling, The Old Schoolhouse, etc. He has received prized acclaim and recommendation from prestigious authors/publications such as The Well Trained Mind, Cathy Duffy, Mary Pride, Home Education Magazine, Family Times, Homeschooling Today, The Shearers, The Link and countless others.

Jim travels extensively internationally and throughout The United States and Canada presenting at homeschool conferences, regional events, school, store and community performances, teacher/parent workshops. He has performed at The White House Easter event(s) and starred and hosted a PBS Storytelling pilot that won a Northern California Emmy Award for Best Children's Show.

JIM WEISS' MISSION STATEMENT

Jim Weiss and Greathall Productions support the theory that education in the arts provides participants with a breadth and diversity that extends to their essential intellectual, artistic, emotional and psychological development and well being. Jim's storytelling performances and workshops for children and adults promote a love of literature, the necessity or worldwide literacy, and the values that make the stories classic.

TO promote storytelling as a vehicle for sharing literature and history in an oral language experience
TO bond and build community through the shared and creative experience of telling stories

Teaching History With G. A. Henty and Other Great Works


Master Storyteller and Recording Artist, Jim Weiss brings the works of the prolific G.A. Henty to life as he demonstrates how to best utilize the remarkable canon of Henty' s historical classics in teaching history and language arts. having recorded several of the Henty novels, Jim will share storytelling and critical thinking techniques that parents can immediately employ in making the Henty books a beloved family experience. In addition to Henty, Jim will reference several other authors and historical/literary pieces.

Storytelling and Character Building: An Adult Workshop


Jim Weiss has dedicated his life's work to telling stories that have endured since the beginning of civilization. All of Jim's stories reflect standards especially in making difficult choices, problem resolution, and critical thinking. In this workshop, Jim will tell stories that exemplify virtues such as perseverance, charity, collaboration, piety, honor, and more. Jim will reference stories from classical literature and other literary pieces. (can also be presented for teens/families)

Storytelling: Up Close and Personal as Literature Comes Alive: A Family Workshop


An exciting and interactive workshop for children and adults from master storyteller and award-winning recording artist, Jim Weiss. Participants will learn about the art of storytelling and oral language. This workshop will focus on: setting the scene, characterization, voice technique, shaping the story, building confidence and developing ones own style. The tenor is casual, and the goal is to have fun with literature. Participants should be prepared to play, laugh and discover how literature can truly come alive in the midst of a storyteller.

Stories Worth Telling: An Adult Workshop


Jim Weiss presents a seminar on the benefit and delight of all-in-the-family storytelling. This workshop will demonstrate how the written word can interface with the spoken word. Emphasis will be placed on how storytelling interweaves into all areas of the curriculum and interfaces with reading and writing and just pure fun. Jim's focus in on classical literature, and he will use his own unique talents to illustrate key points as he interacts with participants. Stories used in this workshop may be selected from the family/adult/child storytelling selections below. requests for stories pertaining to particular conferences themes are always welcome. One very popular theme is Greek Mythology. (can also be presented for teens/families)

Greek Mythology...Stories Worth Telling


Sit back and relax as Jim Weiss captivates his audience with his renditions of Greek Myths. Both Mary Pride and the Shearers from Greenleaf Press endorse Jim's tellings of Greek mythology. Both commend Jim for telling them as "enjoyable stories...with morals...embedded in our cultural heritage..." Jim's tellings are not only delightful and enjoyable but will give parents a workable example of how to share these age-old stories with their children, and provide children with incentive and motivation to read these stories on their own.

In this workshop,Jim Weiss presents riveting, time-honored, true stories that provide character, history and life lessons. Jim will show parents ways to make these people come to life in history and language arts lessons as well as how to offer perspective between the times in which they lived and today’s world.

Up Close and Interactive with Jim Weiss


Master storyteller and award-winning recording artist, Jim Weiss will present an interactive workshop for teens who want to perfect their stage presence, public speaking skills and style, voice technique, and overall verbal confidence. Participants are asked to bring a 3-4 minute story that they feel comfortable sharing in the workshop. This can be a self-contained segment from a longer story, description of a personal experience, or narrative. Format will be cozy and very user-friendly!
